"I needed to insure a house I was preparing to buy. I was given a quote and offered a further discount if I switch over to them for car insurance. I was warned about the underwriters but assured that I would have time to complete any work that the underwriters demanded. I was told 6 months. I was told today that's not the case, instead I have a month to complete the required repairs or they would drop my home insurance. I asked why it was only a month not 6 months and was told it's different for everyone. Some people get a year, some people get weeks. But no explanation for why the difference in time frames. And, they of course asked if I had that 6 month timeline I was given in writing, which they know I don't have. It's just what I was told. Some repairs are pretty straight forward. Paint the roof. Ok. Just have to assume it's the whole roof since you get no other descriptive details. Other repairs are not so clear. One was branches touching the house and debris. No explanation of what trees are a problem or what debris. Others were cracked or boarded up windows, but again no pictures or anything telling you what windows need fixed. The tiniest Crack in any window needs repaired, or they won't insure me? Seems silly. And again a month to find and fix it all. But don't worry they have contractors they have worked with that can certainly help. Local contractors that the insurance company refers to fix the problems the insurance company requires you to fix. Convenient. But I was assured the insurance company gains nothing by referring these contractors. It's all just to help me. Help me complete the repairs the insurance company decides I need to fix. Regardless I don't do business with companies that lie to me. I was told I would have time to complete repairs. I was told 6 months. One month isnt sufficient time. I highly doubt i could get a contractor in here to do all the repairs they require in a month anyway. Which they know. Imo they dont want to insure the house. So they give a short time frame they know you cant meet so they dont have to insure you. After speaking with them, they are aware the timeline could be weeks, with no explanation on why one person gets a year and the next a few weeks, but they don't tell you it could be weeks. They could simply write into the contract the roof for example won't be covered fully until the repairs are made, but they gain nothing by doing that so... instead they threaten to drop you. Do what you will with this information. Personally I'm dropping them. House insurance and car insurance. Personally I'd think twice about using a company that lies to its potential clients and then asks if they have it in writing. That gives the impression they've been through this more than once. Update. Went with another company who also does these inspections. Inspection came back clean. No roof repairs to make, no windows to fix, and no branches hitting the house or debris issues."
